This work concerns the roofing of the grandstand of the municipal sports centre in Cislago (Varese), for which our firm had already handled the structural design of the complex, completed in 2019.
The intervention was necessary because the grandstand, despite being an integral part of the structure, was left without a roof, making the changing rooms below vulnerable to water infiltration and leaving spectators exposed to the elements.
To solve these problems, we designed and built a canopy made of laminated wood and steel.
The structure is supported by nine HEB 320 columns, taking advantage of existing provisions, and covers a double stand: one facing the synthetic grass pitch (with a capacity of 324 seats) and the other, with 158 seats, facing a future limestone pitch.
A further objective of the project was to prepare the canopy for a future installation of photovoltaic panels.
Managing the construction site was particularly challenging due to the complexities of installation, requiring constant coordination with the contractor to optimize logistics and assembly phases, minimizing construction times to allow the football pitch to reopen for competitions quickly.
