Architectural Project Migliore + Servetto

Go-up - Architectural Studio

MEP Design by Technical Studio Eng. Luca Pizzorni

Following the victory in the public tender announced in 2019, the studio was commissioned by the Municipality of Genoa (together with the group led by Migliore+Servetto – responsible for the architectural project with Go-Up, Eng. Luca Pizzorni, Inglobe Technologies s.r.l., and Eng. Alberto Messico) to develop the project for the creation of the new museum of the City of Genoa, dedicated to the history, identity, and evolution of the Genovese territory.

The structural project provides for the construction of:

An elevated, stepped museum structure, designed in structural steel and timber (or steel framework and wood), follows the geometry of the architectural design by incorporating both a stepped portion and a flat portion.

An open shelving structure of the Wunderkammer type to be built at the entrance.

An opening within a load-bearing wall in the restroom area.

Regarding the elevated museum structure, its plan geometry will be trapezoidal, diverging in the upward travel direction, with a projected area of approximately 110 square meters. Conversely, the flat, rectangular portion will have an area of approximately 130 square meters.

From a structural point of view, it will be composed as follows:

  1. Vertical load-bearing structure consisting of steel box sections used as horizontal beams (or transoms) and vertical columns (or uprights). The height of the columns is variable in relation to the altimetric profile (or conformation) of the stairway.

  2. From a foundational point of view, the columns will rest on reinforced concrete foundation beams.

  3. The walkable surface (or flooring) of both the flat and stepped portions will be constructed with an entirely timber structure, composed of beams and CLT (Cross-Laminated Timber) panels.
