Structural Project (preliminary, definitive, executive)

Construction Management

The project is one of the underground garages built on municipal property following public tenders and the transfer of surface rights.

Piazza Rapisardi, which occupies a trapezoidal area of approximately 2,500 square meters on the eastern edge of the Pegli district, serves as a sort of eastern entrance to the town center.

Over the years, various changes in use and layout have erased the image of the public square, transforming it into a "large" parking lot that hosted the local market once a week.

The materials used, such as bituminous pavement, and the deterioration that has progressed over time have also contributed to impoverishing it.

The administration's desire to restore the square to its former use with private funding motivated the public tender for the construction of an underground parking garage for 68 spaces and the redevelopment of the square.

The main structural challenge was geotechnical in nature due to the need to excavate in the presence of a powerful aquifer, requiring the excavation to reach a depth of approximately 7 metres at a distance of approximately 50 metres from the sea.

The technique for reaching the bottom of the excavation involved the use of diaphragm walls combined with the extraction of water through three large-diameter wells.

The architectural aspect was taken care of in the definition of the new road system, in the careful choice of the new emerging volumes and in the choice of materials for the floors and coverings in order to resolve the aesthetic-functional aspect.

For the materials, the choice was directed towards a resistant flooring in porphyry cubes, for the cladding long-lasting materials such as pink granite, for the emergencies transparent materials such as glass.

The string lighting has been replaced with the typical street lamps of Genoa.
